Hi, I have this issue.

I have one document library with different policies and content types attached to some policies. I downloaded a file and go to another document library where I have only one policy and the checkout is required. I uploaded the file and now the file is in checkout mode, I clicked on the file and when I tried to edit the metadata, it hands like below,

Now, if I try to modify the metadata using the edit option on the sharepoint library, I get the following message,

This library has the versioning activated and uses drafts and major versions. I am using Internet Explorer v10 32 bits edition.

Any thoughts?

Hi Javi,

Did you mean that you can open the document in Office application but fail when editing the metadata for the document after opening the document in Office application?

If that is the case, I recommend to check if the Document Information Panel has been customized in the library.

Please also provide a screenshot of the policies set on the library for further research.

In addition, for the documents locked for shared use error, I recommend to clear the cache in Credential Manager to see if the issue can be resolved.

Thank you Victoria. I have found the following two links, so, the workaround is to upload the file normally using the SharePoint ribbon and once you are done with the metadata, click on check-in.
