Office docs open read only from a SharePoint list through Outlook on Windows 7
I just moved to Windows 7 having previously used the SharePoint (MOSS 2007) lists feature in Outlook 2007 on WinXP for some time now with great success. It seems that now when I open a document through Outlook from a SharePoint list it opens in read only mode. Or, at least when I try to update the document on the server I get a message stating that the document is read-only. The really odd thing is that if I check the document through my browser it is checked-out to my user account.
Any ideas?
Thanx!

I have also found that by turning off Check-in/out, the use of SharePoint lists within Outlook works just fine. So, this issue only appears when documents must be checked out.

Hi,
Based on my research, you can refer to the following articles to fix the issue:
Editing a Document in SharePoint Opens as Read-Only
http://blogs.technet.com/anneste/archive/2009/01/28/editing-a-document-in-sharepoint-opens-as-read-only.aspx
Office 2003 and 2007 Office documents open read-only in Internet Explorer

Hope this helps.

document library items are stored in read-only PSTs, but you're able to modify items that were created by Word 2007, Excel 2007, or PowerPoint 2007. When you open such items, a Message Bar appears at the top of the document, and you can click Edit Offline. The local copy of the changed item is stored in the SharePoint Drafts folder in My Documents. Thereafter, Outlook 2007 accesses the local copy, not the PST. You can also check out the item from SharePoint when you're online by using the Check Out feature and selecting "Use my local drafts folder"; you'll automatically be able to modify the document offline with this method.
After you modify the item and exit the application, a check is performed to see whether you're online and the item can be updated on the SharePoint site. If not, it stays in the SharePoint Drafts folder until you open it again, but the document will have an icon to show that it was modified, and it will also appear in your SharePoint Drafts Search folder in Outlook. When you connect to SharePoint later and open the changed item, a dialog box appears to let you update the changes to the server. You need to open every modified item from the SharePoint Drafts folder; Outlook won't notify you automatically to update these items.

Thanx for the feedback!
Unfortunately, I am not having the issue described in Anne's blog. I went through the registry keys and my machine has all of those. I also ran ProcMon and dumped the CSV file. I searched for ACCESS DENIED and did not find any similar to what Anne described as being the issue.
I did find ACCESS DENIED messages related to the Content.Outlook folder where the temporary files are stored for virus scanning. Changing this to Read/Write seemed to have no positive affect.
Any other ideas or thoughts are greatly appreciated!
