Office Sharepoint Usage Anlytics Log Import
Hi ,I'm having this problem where usage statistics are missing randomly. Most days it works but some days it just shows that zero vistors have visited the site. This is pretty frustrating when you want to make reports about the site usage because some of the data will be missing and the report will be inaccurate. So far, what i have been able to find out is that there are three jobs responsible for enabling the viewing of site usage statistics within sharepoint sites. These are: Usage Analysis - Gets the data from the IIS logs and saves them to a file. Office Sharepoint Usage Analytics Log Import - Stores the data from the files in a database Office Sharepoint Usage Analytics Processing - Processes the data in the databaseand prepares it for reporting See http://blogs.msdn.com/markarend/attachment/8927844.ashxfor more timer job descriptions The first and the last work fine. At least, as far as I can see. The Log import however is does not seem to run properly. On my development machine it has not run at all. There are some stsadm commands you can use <getproperty> and <setproperty> which can tell you if a certain job is scheduled or not. But I could not find the the propertyname for the Log Import job.See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263478.aspxfor the available stsadm commands. Can anyone tell me what the propertyname is for the Log Import Job so I can set the schedule manually???Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thnx,Robert

Hi there,I spoke to MS and this issue seems to related to a bug in MOSS. The following is the email from the MS consultant Problem description:=================The data in SpUsageWeb.aspx dont match the data in the UsageDetails.aspx page. Cause:=================It is very like a known issue of the Site Usage Report. The symptom is as below: The usage log could be written into 00.log file in previous day folder.Depends on when you did the above operation, the access log may be wrongly written to 00.log file inthe previous day folder.(Folder nameis 2009-MM-DD (Which "DD" could be previous day of today) If you did operation at GMT time Yesterday(For Tokyo time,it is time before AM 9:00),it will write to 00.log file in folder of Yesterday)If you didoperation at GMT Today(For Tokyo time, it is timeafter AM 9:00), it will write to 00.log file in folder of Today. Plan:==================The issue is fixed in the Aprils Service Pack, which is going to be released. We are now testing the Service Pack and will update you once we finish the test. If no exception, I will send you the Service Pack early next week. Then you can try and see if the issue can be fixed by the Service Pack. Additional information:==================The _layouts/usagedetails.aspx page is still available in SharePoint 2007, although there is no link to it in the site settings page. If the Site Usage Report works properly, the data in the usagedetails.aspx should match the data in the SpUsageWeb.aspx.

Hi, I have the same problem, data seems to be missing from SpUsageWeb.aspx. Thanks for this post, i'm able to read the reports from _layouts/usagedetails.aspx. Just wonder, does this issue fixed by SharePoint service pack 2 ? or there is a hotfix for this issue? Regards, Xue Qi

Hi Xue Qi, I've only seen it fixed in SP2. You should try it out in a test environment (tricky I know, as you never have enough hits in a test env). Good Luck! Later'ish Craig
