Office 365 ShsarePoint : Declare record in document library

Hi,

We have a requirement where a document should be locked(restrict edit/delete) once it is approved using an approval workflow in a doc library. This can be done using the in-place record management by setting the document as a record when the workflow completes.

However in sharepoint 2013, as I see here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/jj728659(v=office.15).aspx , the declare record action is deprecated. Any clue how can we declare record when the document is approved in SHAREPOINT ONLINE.

Configure in place records management for a site collection

Note    You must first activate the in place records management feature at the site collection level before you can complete this procedure.

  1. Navigate to the top level site.
  2. Click Settings Settings button, and then click Site Settings
  3. Under Site Collection Administration, click Record declaration settings.
  4. On the Record Declaration Settings page, in the Record Restrictions section, select the option that specifies the kind of restrictions that will be placed on an item when it is declared a record. This setting does not affect items already declared as records.
  • No Additional Restrictions    This restriction is useful if you want records to have a separate retention policy than non-records, but dont want to block the records from being deleted or edited.
  • Block Delete    This is the default restriction for the Records Center.
  • Block Edit and Delete    This restriction is useful if you want to completely lock a document so that it cannot be edited or deleted. A padlock icon is associated with the document to visually show that the item is locked.

I have already gone through this. It does not help. I do not want to manually declare an item as record. I have a specific requirement of declaring the document as record once it is APPROVED.

According to the link you posted the "Declare Record" action is not actually deprecated but only supported under SP2010 workflow platform which is still supported. SharePoint Designer 2013 has coordination actions which includes launching a SP2010 based workflows. This could declare document as a record:

Thanks for your response Steve. So this means I need to create an SP2010 based workflow that declares a document as a RECORD and then invoke this workflow from an SP2013 workflow.
