Office 2010 will not open Office 2003 Documents on SharePoint
Going directly to a document in the document view and selecting any of them will present the Read Only/Edit prompt and when clicking Read Only Word or Excel 2010 depending on the document type will open to a blank page and just sit there. If you do a search and then click on the documents that are returned in the search results, it opens as expected.

Brian is not alone on this one. The environment I'm working in has the exact symptoms and problems as Brian indicated. No luck on resolution yet. I will keep you posted if I find anything. More Info: Using same client (Windows 7, IE8, Office 2010), I have attempted the same test with another SP2007 environment. No problems. This somewhat rules out the client being the issue. However, there are 2 differences in my SP 2007 environments. The one that does NOT work has ISA 2006 in front of it. The one that does NOT work is at SP2007 SP2 (vs. SP1). New Update: IE 8.0 64-bit.....no problems opening the documents in either environment. However, I lose the "Read Only / Edit" option when clicking on the document link within SharePoint.

We were unable to repro this either so it may be specific versions of SharePoint or perhaps environment/client related as Phil has noted above.Fred Ellis - MSFT - "Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Since this will take some digging you could open a support case with SharePoint to try to help get to the bottom of this.
