Occasional credentials prompt

Hi

I recently upgraded a SP2010 farm to SP2013 and all looked okay. It turns out some users get prompted for credentials when they use 'save as' within any office product (and the last place they saved to was SharePoint). If they just cancel (x) out of the prompt they can then navigate to where they want to save the document to within SP and it saves as expected. We are getting the error at the bottom of the post in the log and this is linked to an AppFabric distributed cache issue (as mention by https://blog.imason.com/distributed-cache-errors-in-sharepoint-2013/). From what I have read this can cause slowness (due to extra automatic login attempts) or if using FBA repeated prompts. The users have no other issues and all works well if they use SP WFE to open and then save documents.

I have no AppFabric CU installed yet (the fix is to install CU4 or later) but my scenario is different. Has anyone experienced anything similar or got an opinion on whether the CU may help?

Thanks in advance

Phil

Hi Victoria

Adding CU5 to AppFabric has stopped the errors mentioned in the original post from appearing in the log but has had no effect on the end users. So just to repeat the problem, some (but not all) users get prompted for credentials (but not all the time) when they use save as from within an office product. If they just cancel the prompt they can then browse to the site/library/folder and save the document as expected. Some people have never been prompted, some have been prompted a few time and then never again, others get prompted all the time.

Also now the log has no error to investigate so I haven't got much to go on.

As an aside, and hopefully unrelated, yesterday we stared getting a 'Trial Period has expired' error on some pages on one (but not all) of the WFE. This also has no extra information in the log to help with the investigation. Incidentally the farm (from OS up) was only build 40 days ago and I believe the trial last 180 days. I will post this separately.

Regards

Phil

Hi Phil,

I recommend to do the steps below to see if the issue can be resolved:
1. Add the SharePoint sites into users trusted sites in their browsers.
2. Restart Web Client service.

In addition, you can create a WebDav connection from their computer to SharePoint library.

Thanks,

Victoria
