I'm doing OS deployment and i seldom see that there are quite many of obsolete workstation in one of my collection. Why does it always have a duplication of workstation where one is obsolete and one is not? can I delete the obsolete workstation from my collection and does it have any effect?

Yes, you can delete the obsolete record without any problems. What many are doing is creating a site maintenance rule to automatically delete obsolete records. You can also create a collection with all the obsolete records, and delete the objects using "Delete special" on the collection.
