OS migration from XP to windows 7 using SCCM for 900 remote location.... Single pc every site.

Hi,

I am running into this issue. We have SCCM 2012 in place and i have to migrate 900 remote sites (extremely slow bandwidth) with no DP, from XP to windows 7. Each site only have 1 PC running XP and my task is to do migration plus migrate data over from xp to windows 7 too using sccm. Please advise how it can be done? The critical thing is 'extremely slow bandwidth' with DP's or secondary SCCM between locations and head office. (The only server each site has is a old fedora server for POS purpose)

I understand in other scenarios i could have created 'Task Sequence' and had advertised it over the WAN but here it seems i cannot because of extremely slow bandwidth.

Any help will be deeply appreciated.

I was halfway through typing exactly the same thing - although you might want to do some research into USMT with external storage so you can migrate the user data easily.

Few of the remote sites have T1 line (1.54 MB) speed installed, again with no DP or secondary sccm server. Is 1.54 MB speed enough to deploy OS from the main head office SCCM server? or what is the recommended minimum speed sccm recommends for site location to deploy OS over the WAN?

I am sorry if i am confusing you.

Is it possible to create shared folder at linux server running at remote site and use it as a DP? Does sccm support creating DP at Linux server or it has to be windows NTFS partition?

You can't use a Linux box as a distribution point. Again, I think your best and most stable option would be to look in to using a standalone media for those offices.

Thanks for all your help and will deeply appreciate if you help me with following 2 questions?

1) If i were to use 'Stand Alone media' for OS migration, what is the best way to use USMT with local media?

2) Is their any minimum bandwidth requirement recommended by SCCM for OS deployment? T1 line with 1.54 MB speed will be good enough for some sites to deploy OS remotely? or you still recommend 'Stand alone media' for these sites too?

Appreciate all your help.
