OSD Using MDT Databse to reply to unknown computers
I have just installed and setup PXE. I have both boot images x86,x64 on my startard and PXE disribution points. I have added the correct ip-helper adddresses on the switch. The client has: Contacting Server: 0.0.0.0 TFTP Download: smsboot\X64\abortpxe.com The SMSPXE.log states ProcessDatabaseReply: No Advertisement found in Db for device smspxe Now from what i read this is because I either need to clear last PXE boot request on the client/collection or there isnt any advertisment for the client. I am fully aware thats the case, so why doesnt it present me with a wizard like MDT did??? Am i missing something, can this product not deploy to bare metal machines?? Can i not use a database to populate which TS to use???

"No Advertisement found in Db for device smspxe" This means that there is a resource in the ConfigMgr DB with either (or both) the same MAC address and SMSBIOS GUID but that it has no task sequences targeted to it. Thus, this system is not unknown and unknown computer support does not apply. The product is perfectly capable of deploying to bare metal machines.Jason | http://blog.configmgrftw.com | Twitter @JasonSandys

So i should delete this manually from SQL? Or run a query to find the hostname for this MAC and then delet? How can it deploy to bar metal machines if it does not know what TS to run? Can i point this to an MDT database, and will it understand MDT roles in SCCM?

Manipulting anything is the DB directly is bad joo-joos and completely unsupported. You should create a query to find the system resource with the MAC address and/or NETBIOS GUID in question and delete it using the console. For bare metal you have two options: import computer information (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb633291.aspx) or using unknown computer support (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc431374.aspx).Jason | http://blog.configmgrftw.com | Twitter @JasonSandys
