OSD Deployment fails on Vostro 1014 because NIC looses IP Address sometime after applying Driver Package unknown host (gethostbyname failed)
I have a Dell Vostro 1014 that I have been unable to OSD because it looses its IP Addresses for some Reason. I verified The NIC Adapter that it should be using is in fact in the Driver Package. I have also imported the driver into SCCM under the drivers folder>Drivers and I verified that under Windows PE tab on the Boot Image (x86) that the driver is listed. in the SMSTS.log I do see an error that says unknown host (gethostbyname failed), which from what I research points to the nic, but all the troubleshooting steps are what I have listed above. I should also add that the problem is with trying to Install XP, Windows 7 works just fine on the same laptop I can image other Dell Laptops Just fine. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

is it losing ip after it has restarted windows ? because at that point it has the driver from your driver package (not the WinPE one) and will try to get an ip address in windows, if no driver is loaded (because the right one is missing from your package) then no ip, if you let it fail to the desktop, can you login to windows and check device manager ? or if you can check for an ip in and around the apply driver package step My step by step SCCM Guides I'm on Twitter > ncbrady

A few times during the Apply Driver packaged I checked and it had an IP. Then it goes through the Joining domain (during which I don't have an option to do F8) then it starts applying the ts application programs and during this time I have no IP. So yes after the apply driver package and before applying all the TS it looses its IP. I have it set so it willc continue on error. When I 1st log into the computer, I'm prompted with a dialog that says "The File 'Rtenicxp.sys' on Realtek 10/100/1000 Nic Family all in one NDIS Driver needed." Type the path where the file is located and then click ok. By default the path is: c:\drivers\8\r255675\Win2000 So if I browse to the same path, but selected the XP folder and then selected the Rtenicxp.sys file from there then it installs the RealTech PCIe GBE Family controller under NEtwork adapters and then I have the adapter and can get connectivity. So I went back to SCCM and I thought I would just try to import the netrtle.inf that is located under the WINXP folder in the dirver package and I get the message that it already exists, so I have the right driver, just not sure what is going on
