OSD Deploy
Hi, I´m new with sccm and I would like some information about OSD. 1- My doubt is on my environment we got a mix of workstations and I would like to know if I need to capture an image for every model of machine that I have or can I build like a referece image if XP and distribute to everyone and only apply the drivers? 2- When I capture the referece image it will came with the driver from the referece machine? 3- I´ve seen also that I can capture an imagem with the boot image cap, this kid of capture can I aswell run it for any machine after or it only can be applied to the model of machine that has been captured? And if anyone could point me some good documentations to learn more about it!Rodrigo Daphanis

Hi, you can choose between the Build and Capture TS and SCCM capture media. Best thing is to put as less as possible drivers in your reference image. Just create driverpackages from that. One reference image is enough for a mix of workstations Don't put to many drivers in your reference image, only NIC drivers are enough (if needed) Create SCCM capture media for that. It's working great! Have a look at my blog for more information: Create driver packages with query: http://henkhoogendoorn.blogspot.com/2010/10/driver-management-in-configmgr-2007.html Create SCCM capture media: http://henkhoogendoorn.blogspot.com/2011/03/create-task-sequence-capture-media.html And 50 more blogs about ConfigMgr functionality.. I recommend using a virtual machine to create a reference image, as it reduces the likelihood of driver conflicts when you deploy this image to physical hardware.

hi Rodrigo 1. use the build and capture process on Virtual hardware and use that captured image to create a new Deploy Task sequence which automatically installs drivers using WMI queries to detect your hardware. 2. No need to install any drivers on your virtual machines (especially if HyperV), expect perhaps for NIC drivers, using virtual hardware (to build and capture images has many advantages including keeping images driver agnostic) 3. You can capture the image in many ways, and deploy it using PXE, standalone media, usb, cd whatever have a look at the following Step by Step guides which will help you get started and up to speed with Configmgr 2007, good luck ! cheers niall My step by step SCCM Guides I'm on Twitter > ncbrady

I agree with Naill and -Johno- that you should build and capture on a VM. I did Windows 7 x86 on Microsoft Virtual PC and Windows 7 x64 on VMWare Workstation, now you most definately do x86 on VMWare aswell.
