Novice - How do i get a small office server running XP set up so we can use Windows share point Services, and Microsoft exchange functions
I am a novice at this. We have a small office server set up runing Windows XP, generally used for storage of data. The office network consists of 4 computers, some running on windows XP, and some on Windows 7. I would like to be able to use Windows share point collaboration, and windows exchange functions in the office between users...what do i need to do to enable this?

Except for development purposes, where you can run SP 2010 on a 64 bit Windows 7 PC, SharePoint requires Windows Server. (Server 2003 for SP 2007 and Server 2008 64 bit for SP 2010) 2007 requirements: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262485%28office.12%29.aspx 2010 requirements: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262485.aspx Mike Smith TechTrainingNotes.blogspot.com

Thanks Mike, In simple English, does this mean that I only have to upgrade the operating software on the server machine from Windows XP that it is now, to Windows Server 2003 or later? The user computers do not need any additional work done? Is the upgrade from Xp to Server a straight forward "just stick in the disc" routine, or would you need to have a degree in deciphering installation manuals and sifting through forums to find the answers. and ultimately tearing your hair out as the "help" and "wizard" functions keep sending you around in circles. Appreciate the help.
