Not present in Services
After installing SQLServer 2008R2 with Advanced Services. (which works well) I could not connect to Report Services using the Reporting Services Configuration Manager which was installed and seems to run. I typed in the Instance of the SQLServer (on the local machine) as reported by querying the database. (computername\SQLEXPRESS) but the find button reports an invalid name space. If I type in only the ComputerName or SQLEXPRESS the find process reports "Unable to connect to Report Server computername". So I read somewhere that a service should be running (like the SQLServer Engine service) and should be found in services. I've read of two different names for it. Report Services(SQLEXPRESS) and SQL Server Report Services but neither is listed in the services on this Machine for the Administrator level login used to install SQLServer. So I tried to reinstall the missing component and find that the SQL Server Installation Center will not allow the selection of any further components because they are already installed. Can someone suggest how to get this Report Services component installed and operational. Thanks.

Try to remove the SSRS component from your instance. Go to config>software>then change/delete sql server. Click remove and follow the setup to unisntall sql server components. Then add the SSRS feature from the normal installation setup. It is pretty weird that the services were not installed. I have never heard of this problem before. Also make sure the current user has enough rights to install services. Run as Admin on Vista or W7.

Thanks for your time Ferry, The server is on an XP-Pro environment and the login is the same that installed SQLServer which does have it's other services present and running. Could you specify from where to access the config>software option you speak of? If you're taking about Add/Remove software for XP. I tried that and there is no option from the SQL Server Installation Center that facilitates removing only SSRS. The closest we can get is to remove the server engine. Since there is no listing in the Installation Center for SSRS, I presume the Report Services component is part of the Server Engine installation.

The issue has been resolved by unInstalling all of SQLServer and reinstalling it with all components available.
