Noob... to use MDT integration or not?
Hi, I am a noob to SCCM... I have it all installed on a test environment... on a single server.. I have deployed configmgr clients, and also have started looking at OSD (I have succesfully performed the build and capture task sequence... I have noted there is a lot of talk online of integrating MDT into SCCM... I am trying to understand what this adds... I have seen from a picture it seems to add some extra task sequences but am not sure how valuable these actually are? Also from a book I am reading it states that "MDT adds a PXE filter supporting unknown computers when deploying an image"... I may be wrong but I think I can already do that with my setup? SCCM 2007 R2 SP3? Also I would be keen to know how people work their driver folder structure? I do not want a complete mess because it looks like something you can quickly add drivers to, to get round issues but then end up not knowing what belongs to what! Finally do most people use Auto Apply driver, or do you specifically choose them via the Apply driver task sequence?

Hi, MDT extends the functionallity in OSD in SCCM with possibilities to use roles for instance based on MAC adress, default gateway and then install software e.t.c based on roles. the book you are reading sounds like it is MDT 2008 when the PXE filter was included, it is now replaced with Unknown Computer support in SCCM SP2 and later. For the driver part I use Driver Pacakges per model together with and WMI query to filter computer model, more info can be found here http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrosd/thread/828c6416-49b3-40c1-94ae-4b8a038343d5/ regards, jörgen-- visit my System center blog at http://ccmexec.com --

Hi, Yes a little further reading revealed that it is based on MDT 2008 and surprisingly the book which is based on SCCM R2 does not make the distinction... Is there a web page anywhere which shows the MDT roles options... are we saying that extra options are added to the collection filters?

To understand MDT integrated with SCCM, I would definitely go trough Niehaus blog http://blogs.technet.com/b/mniehaus/ and the deployment guys http://blogs.technet.com/b/deploymentguys/.Michael Petersen http://blog.coretech.dk/mip/

think of MDT integration as adding a whole bunch of ready made scripts to SCCM, very useful indeed, and in your task sequence it adds new commands such as Offline installation of Language Packs, to get some noob friendly SCCM guides please see my signature cheers niall My step by step SCCM Guides I'm on Twitter > ncbrady
