Lots of people feel that regular backups is something for wimps. Real people do not need to back up their irreplaceable files. They often learn a very harsh lesson when something goes wrong with their PC.
Iron rule of data storeage: Important files must be stored on two independent media at all times.
If you like big risks then you can re-install Windows without bothering about backups. It will probably work. Maybe it won't. It's your choice. If you do back up your files beforehand, remember to perform a few spot checks of the backup on a different machine. How else would you know that the backup was successful?
Hello,
An in-place upgrade may meet your requirement:

After the upgrade, you dont need to reinstall any application and all the data are not affected.
Thanks,
