Newbie : Advice for design of Monthly Reboot for Server 2003

SCCM 2007 SP2 R3

Please review and advise pitfalls, better approaches etc. Thanks.

Since no new patches are being released for Server 2003, we have to design a monthly reboot process.

Upgrade to 2008/2012 will happen sometime next year, I guess. Till then we need to design a solution to force a reboot for all 2003 servers once a month.

I plan to use an SCCM advertisement that restarts the server.
(*Note : For historical reasons we do not use SCCM MW; but instead we configure SCOM MW windows.)
    - I will align the Adv start time to the MW
    - I will also align the expiry time of the Adv to the end time of the MW (to prevent later reboot for currently offline servers)
    - Repeat the above every month

Just FYI, we have dozens of MW's (due to incremental migrations of hundreds of countries). I will have to propose a few MW slots that use local server time and agree with business to choose one of these.

It sound like it will work.. And it sound like you will have fun creating the averts each month. You should look at scripting it.
