New column with the default values of existion column in the Doc library
Need to create new column in the documnet library.
this column should have default value from the existing columns like Created by.down the road if it need to chage then it should be edit.
Any idea how can i pull data from existion column as defual vaue

any idea how to get created by column vaues as default to another cloumn in WSS 3.0(NO MOSS SERVER).what is the formula in calc column.help me out

If you are only interested in getting created by in a column of your own, you could do the following (In WSS3).
Create a new column of type Single line of text
Set the default value to Calculated Value and in the text box type "=Me"
Save this and add a new item to the list, you will see your AD Login in this new column.

for my requirment i am looking to get the login user name of sharepoint site, created by column vlaue when the new doc is uploaded to the doc library.i want to same column value as the default column value to my new column

Hi,
For your scenario, Out of box it’s impossible for using the existed column value as default value.
When you are creating new item, how does custom column know what’s the value of “Create BY” column?
You need do some customization or program to achieve this.
When you created the new item, you can attach a workflow or event handle to update the custom column based existed column.
