New and Delete buttons missing for 'Users'
Hi, I have got the opposite problem to normal. When I select the users link on the nav bar to view users I do not see the 'New' and 'Delete' buttons at the top (just details). I am logging in as a user that is a member of the Administrators group, and have created an MPR that gives Administrators all the operations to All Objects and All Attributes. I have compared the search scope for 'All Users' and the nav bar resource 'Users' to a working system and cannnot see any differences. The same thing happens is I go to all resources and select users. The URL is the default one: ~/IdentityManagement/aspx/users/Users.aspx which gets redirected to AllPersons.aspx. I didn't think it was possible to remove these buttons for administrators! Any ideas where else to look? Thanks, Mark

Well I have no idea why this is but I've got the exact same situation in my lab! I don't know if it's been there a while and I only just noticed it after reading your post, or whether it's new. It's only for Users as well - other object types still have all their buttons. Just out of interest do you have any other weird problems in the portal? I've been trying to track down an authentication problem in my lab for two days now.http://www.wapshere.com/missmiis

OK so here's what I'm seeing in my lab, now I've got my login problem sorted. The local Administrator (account I used to install FIM and also the FIM administrator) does not get the New and Delete buttons. A domain user does get them. Are you using a local account?http://www.wapshere.com/missmiis

Scratch that. I've got one user who mysteriously has the buttons, and all the others I've tried so far don't have them.http://www.wapshere.com/missmiis

Carol, can you provide a screenshot with missing buttons? just wondering whether it was caused by .aspx malfunction or images that were not loaded correctly.

I moved the configuration to another environment and exactly the same thing happened. I installed FIMService and Portal on a server that already had the sync service on, applied update 1 then hotfix for build 4.0.3573.2 (2417774). I then synced my config from my development server and sometime later noticed it had the same problem. I’ve gone through the changes file and can’t see anything that would have caused this. I can't upload a screenshot from my current location, but they are just not present, and it looks the same as if I'd deliberately removed them.

Here's a picture from my lab: http://www.wapshere.com/missmiis/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/no_new_user.jpg It's all a bit random at the moment - the buttons are there for some users and not others. Some users who didn't have the buttons before now do. I can't see a pattern as yet, and I haven't found any errors.http://www.wapshere.com/missmiis

Ditto: http://cid-8b88469f8151e18f.photos.live.com/self.aspx/Public/image001.png I shall test some other users too to see if I can spot anything.

IIRC you have to be in the "User Administrators" set to have access to the "Create User" button. Access to some of those buttons are controlled within the portal "code behind". There's something similar in place for group creation too. If you're not in the "Group Administrators" set you won't be able to create a criteria-based group.

I was wondering how MSIT was able to hide these buttons and now I just altered User Administrators set to exclude a user (it contains all users by default). Finally only 'details' button is visible for that user. Thanks Paul. The next question that makes me mad is: 'how to use an identity picker control for a custom activity configuration part?'. Who knows... You might have this ace in the hole too :)

That's good to know. I guess this must have changed at some point? I know the buttons used to always be there.http://www.wapshere.com/missmiis
