New Subscription notification for windows service stopped does not work
Hi I have created a new subscription which goes to my test user. I have created a test service on a monitored box and added it to monitored services within authoring. I have a standard all alerts notification within opsmgr which as the title suggests get all alerts.my problem is that i get an alert in all Alerts but my test user does not get an alert even though i have specified the windows service classes within the subscriptioncan anyone point me in the right direction i'm a bit stuckThanks

When I get this issue its normally because I have set the subscription up with the wrong email domain.Normally if you have say an AD domain of scom.local your email address is paulATscom.local but in Exchange we need to change the resipent policy to be something like paulATscom.com .What you need to use is the AD email address and not the SMTP one.ORYour SMTP server needs you to authenticate and then you need to make sure on the email setup that you select "intergrated authentaction"Give it a go and let me know if it works, or if you need more on the location of the settingsPaulPaul Keely

Hi ScottyIn addition to what Paul has suggested, be aware that in OpsMgr 2007 R2, you can right click an alert in the console and create the subscription from the alert. This way you know that the correct class is targetted. The other thing I would always do when troubleshooting a notification like this is to go back to a simple scenario and see if that works. If you set up a subscription for all alerts (DON'T filter the subscription on anything not even the service - keep it to ALL Alerts), does this user get any notifications? If not, then it is not the subscription itself that is the issue but the configuration of notifications, either at the Channel level or at the Exchange ServerCheersGraham View OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/

Ok I've Check the exchange server settings and authentication was set to anonymous but the opsmgr server is set as a server in the exchange relay list. i have set it to authenticated and it still works as it did. I removed the filter on classes and specified all alerts and a baseline alert came through. so that would suggest the configuration of the notification. Another strange thing is that i have multihost ping working and disk space checks both working for desktopsupport group. can someone point me in the right direction to diagnose this issue.

HiJust to add to what Paul has asked - could you please be clear when you respond in differentiating between:a) an alert in the consoleb) the notification via email. If I understand you correctly then when you removed all filters on a subscription, the notification via email was received. If so, then when you are setting up notifications via email for alerts in the console, you can just right click the alert in the console and choose the option to create subscription for that alert (assuming you are using OpsMgr 2007 R2).CheersGrahamView OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/

Hi all I have subscriptions setup which are working and users are receiving emails now.I have setup a new subscription which I would just like the services class defined for a specific group of users eventually. At the moment it is just a specific user mytest user who is not receiving an email alert when the class is defined. When I select all email alerts and define no classes email come through. I do not have Opsmgr 2007 R2 (unfortunately)thanks

HiAre you also using alert description as part of the criteria?http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978359If you are running SP1 then I'd also suggest ensuring that Cumulative Roll up is deployed in case this resolves any issues:http://blogs.technet.com/kevinholman/archive/2009/11/09/opsmgr-2007-sp1-cumulative-rollup-hotfix-has-shipped.aspxI'm a bit out of date on SP1 ... out of the box you can't subscribe to a single alert which you can do in R2 which would make this much easier. Kevin Holman has blogged about how you can do this in SP1 but it is a fair bit of work:http://blogs.technet.com/kevinholman/archive/2008/10/12/creating-granular-alert-notifications-rule-by-rule-monitor-by-monitor.aspxHe might well explain your problem along with a solution here:http://blogs.technet.com/kevinholman/archive/2008/02/01/configuring-notifications-to-include-specific-alerts-from-specific-groups-and-classes.aspxLet us know how you get on with the last url - this is SP1 specific information.Good LuckGrahamView OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/

HI All I have followed the steps in the Cumulative Roll up but that has not changed anything. I still do not get any email notification to my test user. Another thing that has occurred to me is that the internal notification mp has been manually altered and from what I have read in Kevin’s post says that if this is the case it renders the UI useless. My skills with XML are poor. I can see the new subscription and the user which is present in the Microsoft.SystemCenter.Notifications.Internal.mp And from what I can see everything is fine as far as I can tell. Will also have a good read of Kevin’s post and see if this can be used. Not sure it will, we are a small organisation and only really need to have simple email notification to Support engineers group. Thanks Sorry for the long delay
