New SCCM installation - same clients

Hi.

We have enherited an SCCM 2012 (non SP1) with a lot of problems. We are not able to install SP1, hence we are not able to upgrade or migrate to R2.

We have decided to deploy a new server, install SCCM 2012 R2 and export Collections, Packages, Applications etc. from the old server and import them on the new server. So far, so good.

My concern though, is that when we do that, I fear that all deployments will be reinstalled on our clients because they have no history regarding the deployments. Is that correct? Is there any way to avoid that?

Thanks in advance!

Regards Michael

It would be no problem if you are using applications (because of the detection method). You could also use CM's migration functionality to migrate packages etc so that their ID will remain the same.

I am aware, that Applications will be detected, but the packages are my concern.

As stated, I cannot migrate since that requires SP1 on the source server - correct?

Hi,

That is correct, if the packages get a new ID they will be rerun on the clients. Migrating them will solve it but then you must upgrade to Sp1 in the source site as well.

That's what I was worried about :-(

It will not be possible to upgrade the source site to SP1.

It should work without being SP1 installed -  it's just not supported then.

Really? So I will be able to add a non sp1 site as source hierarchy?

Yes, I know this is an old post, but Im trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?

Well, actually we gave it a shot more and got the installation upgraded to SP2, so we are now able to migrate.
