New Install of SCOM 2007 R2
I am planning the installation of SCOM 2007 R2 and have a couple questions. I would like to install all server roles on the same server. I will not be monitoring that many machines so the load on it shouldn't be that bad. I want to use Windows 2008 R2 SP1(x64) and SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1(x64) But listed under the minimum software requirements, it says, "Operations Manager 2007 does not support a 32-bit Operations Manager Operations database, Reporting Server data warehouse, or Audit Collection database, or SQL Server Reporting Services on a 64-bit operating system." Yet under Supported Operating Systems for Reporting Server it lists Server 2008 R2 SP1 and all versions of Server 2008 R2 are x64. 1.) Can I install all roles on 1 server? 2.) Can the Windows server be x64 and SQL also be x64? Thanks!

Hi SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1(x64) is not supported - SP1 is currenly not supported for SQL 2008 R2. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb309428.aspx 1.) Can I install all roles on 1 server? Yes - see scenario - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb735402.aspx 2.) Can the Windows server be x64 and SQL also be x64? Yes. If you are looking at Windows 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 R2 then it has to be x64. But listed under the minimum software requirements, it says, "Operations Manager 2007 does not support a 32-bit Operations Manager Operations database, Reporting Server data warehouse, or Audit Collection database, or SQL Server Reporting Services on a 64-bit operating system." This means it is not supported to use SQL 32 bits on a 64 bits operating system. 32 bits SQL on 32 bits OS or 64 bits SQL on 64 bits OS is supported.Regards, Marc Klaver http://jama00.wordpress.com/
