Netwoks discovery method
Hello, I have a question concerning the Netwoks Discovery Method : I want to discover blank computers (without OS) connected to my netwoks, my DHCP server is a linux SCCM displays an error: (Network Discovery failed to connect to a DHCP server due to a connection error. (Network Discovery can communicate only with Microsoft DHCP servers; if you do not use these servers, you can ignore this error.) Solution: If you are using Microsoft DHCP servers, then refer to the specific error string for details. This error message means that fewer clients and networks will be found than otherwise. Note that this message will not be generated again during this Network Discovery session, regardless of how often the error occurs) So I am oblige to have a Microsoft DHCP to use Networks Discover ??? To know that my DHCP servers in production platform are in linux what i should do to discover blank computers which connect to my netwoks ?? Thanks

Hi, No, Networks Discovery is not destinated to discover blank computer. Network Discovery searches your network for IP-enabled resources by querying Microsoft DHCP servers, Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) caches in routers, and SNMP-enabled devices. Network Discovery can also search Active Directory domains and IP subnets For more info : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb693986.aspx Regards. Bechir Gharbi. ...and after we can pusch a sccm client ?? You said "blank computer without OS" so how are you going to push SCCM client to it? What exactly are you trying to accomplish, maybe if we understand that we can help you more. Network discovery is meant for those without AD or those who want to discover non-computer devices. IMO network discovery makes a huge mess so I would only use it as a last resort. John Marcum | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum |
