Need user credentials prompt for web reports
Hi, I've run into a problem that normally everyone actually would not consider a problem. I've lost the user credential prompt for browsing to the webreprorts of Config Mgr. Usually people are sick off this prompt and there are numerous posts about how to get rid of them, specially on the reporting point server itself. Anyways I'm missing the prompt on all my ConfigMgr servers, both 2003 (IIS6) and 2008 (IIS7). Servers still running SMS 2003 will prompt for user credentials and did so before they were upgraded to ConfigMgr. As soon as we upgrade the prompt is gone and users fail to browse to the webreports, since they use a different account for that. Changing the security setting for local intranet to always prompt works, but is not desirable. Any ideas how to bring it back? Br MrHill

You should actually never see the prompt is things are configured correctly however if they are not configured correctly and you do see the prompt I have seen an issue once where someone click to option to save the username and password in IE. The next time the password changed it wouldnt' prompt again and they got an error and couldn't get into the reports. John Marcum | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum |

Hi guys, And thanks for your replies. @ Kent: The IE ESC configuration does not affect the client behaviour regardless of configuraition. @ John: The idea with the saved credentilas is actually not a bad idea, but the situation we experience is that after an upgrade from SMS to SCCM, the prompt is gone on all client computers. If I'm logged on to a client computer with my user account and browse to SMS 2003 webreports, my user account have no rights and I will be prompted to specify my admin account. If I on the same computer browse to a SCCM Reporting Point, there is no prompt and my user account will fail and access is denied. However if I change my client IE settings to always prompt for local intranet zone, I will be able to access the web interface. So SMS 2003 was behaving differently and we need that behaviour since most of our report readers are not logged on with the account that grants them rights to the web reports. Br MrHill

Why not simply give people access to reporting rather than using an admin account? You can't do any damage with just reporting rights. John Marcum | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum |
