Need a WebPart to show permissions on site
HiI need a web part that will display the permissions for a site (web part is added to the site) so that users can see what level of permissions have been set before they add any content. This will be Doc Libraries, Lists, Blogs etc.Does anyone know of such a thing?ThanksRob

Not exactly, but you can check this :http://www.codeplex.com/AccessCheckerThe web part will confirm what permissions a user has to each list and site at a certain level in a Sharepoint hierarchy. It can also show the permission inheritance hierarchy for a better understanding of how permissions are setup.Cheers!.......Regards, Aj (http://www.ajittgeorge.blogspot.com) MCTS

yea I have had a look at that it whilst it does look good, it isn't what I need for this job.My companies managers want to be sure of permissions in a given area before they add a confidential document and not rely on assumptions.

So this may not be the exact answer you are looking for... but I'd like to propose the following. You are looking at this from a "reactive" stance as apposed to a proactive one. The proactive way to deal with this would be to have the appropriate governance in your SharePoint environment that would give your manager's confidence in where to place their confidential documents.I define SharePoint Governance as the: who, what, where, why, and when of SharePoint. "Who" is allowed to do "What" and "Where" and "When" they do it. The "Why" is why they are allowed that level of access. So while this document does not give you the "web part" you are looking for - I hope that it give some motivation for setting these types of controls in place. As someone who has gone through this type of thing with manager-types before - this is an issue that shows up when SharePoint is new. When was the last time a manager asked for this type of reporting in their "Manager Shared Drive". Just show them how the level of controls are the same as those that are on the "shared drive".Jeff DeVerter, MCSERackspaceblog:http://www.social-point.comtwitter: http://www.twitter.com/jdeverter

Rob, I'm running into a similar requirement (the need to quickly confirm access before uploading content to a library), and am wondering if you've been able to find a workaround for your issue. The need to dig into the details of site permissions and folder inheritence is cumbersome, and is turning our users back to shared drives and local storage at an unbelievable rate. Any luck? Thanks, Michelle
