NTFS File/Folder Access Denied

Have a folder structure with NTFS and share permissions set from the top down.  A particular user cannot move files from X:\TopFolder\SubFolder\File1.ext into the X:\TopFolder\SubFolder.

NTFS permissons for the group the user is a member of has modify permissons.  There are no conflicting deny permissions.

The user is the owner of the file mentioned above.  Have tried on various local and VDI machines without success.

Cannot change NTFS permissions lightly as propagation can take a number of hours and affects different users in different time zones.

I have replicated the NTFS permissions on a test user and can replicate the problem exactly.

When the user attempts to move the file the following message is displayed:

"File Access Denied.

You need permission to perform this action.

You require permission from domain\<username> to perform this action, but the name displayed is the owner of the file which happens to be the same as the currently logged on user.

Throwing this out in case I have missed something.  Doesn't happen for other users, not an AV issue as other users can access and move without issue.

Hi,

Which folder do you make a copy from the X:\TopFolder\SubFolder to? Does the user also have permissions on the destination folder? You could try giving the specific user modify permissons on the folder to check the results.

Hi Mandy,

Sorry for the delayed reply, was travelling and catching up with work.  Permissions were set correctly but the issue turned out to be a conflicting deny permission due to another admin adding and removing the user from a particular security group.

User is now permenantly removed from the group and obviously no conflicting permissions and access is correct.
