Multiple ACS Collectors
Servers: W2K8 R2 SP1 SQL: SQL Servers 2008 r2 I will be using multiple ACS Collectors. To be able to see the different Auditing Reports from the different ACS Collectors, do I need to register each ACS database with my SQL Server Reporting Services? I've only seen information on how to install a single ACS and was wondering if there is anything special to configure when using multiple ACS's. dave

Yes, because there is only one collector-database pair each time (with possibility for a standby collector) and if you have multiple instances of those you have to bring reporting together :-). Read through some resources here on how to do things: http://thoughtsonopsmgr.blogspot.nl/2009/12/audit-collection-services-acs-some.html Also SecureVantage has some great guidance on how to handle bigger ACS deployments.Bob Cornelissen - BICTT (My Blog about SCOM) - MVP 2012 and Microsoft Community Contributor 2011 Recipient

Thanks Bob, unfortunately, the link you referenced has no information on using multiple ACS Collectors and how to configure them so that the informaiton can be seen in Reporting on the Operations Console. dave

Hi David - Multiple ACS collectors (and therefore multiple ACS databases) is a non-standard configuration. There is no best practice on doing what you are asking if it is possible at all. Audit reports are viewable in the OpsMgr console only if you performed an integrated installation of ACS reports on the OpsMgr report server. It might be possible to manually modify the scripts that upload the ACS reports to use a different folder name and data source name than the defaults, and then run the modified scripts to add second and subsequent ACS databases. I have no experience with such a custom setup but you could experiment. There are third party products that feature common back end ACS data warehouse database solutions. For example Secure Vantage makes an audit collection product that consolidates multiple ACS data sources into a single historical archive: http://securevantage.com/Products/SVTAuditManagerEnterpriseSuite.aspxJohn Joyner MVP-SC-CDM

Thanks John. I figured it out by experimenting. Your "tip" to use a different folder name is correct. To deploy ACS reporting, I followed the standard instructions: Log on to the server that will be used to host ACS reporting.Create a temporary folder, such as C:\ACS.on your installation media, go to \Reportmodels\ACS and copy the directory contents to the temporary installation folder. On your installation media, go to \SupportToolsand copy the file ReportingConfig.exe into the temporary ACS folder.Open a command prompt window by using the Run as Administrator option, then change to the temporary ACS folder.Run the commnad UploadAuditReports "<AuditDBServer\instance>" "<Reporting Server URL>" "<Path of the copied ACS folder>"Open Internet Explorer and enter the following address to view the SQL Reporting Services home page http://<yourReportingServerName>/Reports_<instancename>Click Audit Reports in the body of the page. Now what I did was Modify the name of the Audit Reports folder to something like "Audit Reports - ACS Collector 1". I then ran the above procedure again, this time using the 2nd ACS Collector, replacing the variable "<AuditDBServer\Instance>" with the name of the DB used by the 2nd Collector. On the SQL Reporting Services home page, the folder Audit Reports has been created. If one has a 3rd ACS Collector, you could rename the Audit Reports folder again and follow the same procedure. When viewing the Reporting tab in the Operations Console, you will see the two Audit Reports folders, each separate. Each set of Audit reports access their own separate ACS database. This was what I was looking to accomplish.

Hi David, Yes that sounds like the right procedure. Assuming the rights of those are compatible. If your ACS boxes are all in the same domain for instance and you have not split the rights to completely different people this should work fine for you. Thanks for sharing David!Bob Cornelissen - BICTT (My Blog about SCOM) - MVP 2012 and Microsoft Community Contributor 2011 Recipient
