Multi tenanted SharePoint 2013 Foundation search not returning results.

Hi All,

I am building a multi tenanted SharePoint 2013 Foundation environment using claims based authentication via ADFS 3.0.

We currently have three servers in the SharePoint farm 1 web front end, 1 App server and 1 SQL server. These will scale to 3 of each except the SQL server.

We have two tenant sites created and our testing has gone well with the exception of Search returning no results for either tenant even though we have managed to index the content.

All tenant are provisioned to our Hosting Root SSL Web application using hostname based site collections ie: Tenant1.domain.com with the web application https://spprdapp01/

This was originally configured to use Claims authentication and windows authentication in the same zone and we could index the content when using a proxy server for the search service but no results were returned when searching within a site.

In our troubleshooting of the search issue the web app has since had windows auth disabled and has been extended to a new Intranet Zone with windows auth enabled. The search content source has been configured to crawl this new site. http://spprdapp01:27543

We are receiving the following error:

Access is denied. Verify that either the Default Content Access Account has access to this repository, or add a crawl rule to crawl this repository. If the repository being crawled is a SharePoint repository, verify that the account you are using has "Full Read" permissions on the SharePoint Web Application being crawled.

Browsing in IE to http://spprdapp01:27543 as our default content access account seems to work and as I understand it the crawl will access all sites under this web app.

I have searched the forums and tried various solutions such as adding the 'DisableLoopbackCheck' reg key and I have also tried the 'BackConnectionHostNames' reg key option with no luck.

I feel there must be something I have missed in the configuration, I would appreciate any thoughts on what to try next.

Thanks!
