Moving to new forest - client configuration
HI, I am about to undertake the task of setting up a new AD forest with a new SCCM deployment. All AD users will be migrated to the new forest and they will keep their PC's that they used in the old forest (the computer accounts and profiles will be migrated). In the old forest SCCM was installed and the SCCM client is installed on the client PC's. What I would like to know is, when users get migrated to the new forest and their PC'S get migrated to the new forest can I trigger a script or something to point the current SCCM clients to the new forest and new SCCM server? Or do I have to go down the path of uninstalling the SCCM client and pushing out a new one? If so, what's the preferred method? Many thanks.

You can just use a GPO to change the client systems site from old SCCM site code to new forest SCCM server's site code. I would use a script to change the sitecode (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc146558.aspx). You also have to make sure to follow http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2009/04/09/reassigning-a-configuration-manager-client-across-hierarchies.aspx, otherwise you will run into issues with the trusted root key.Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de

I concur with Torsten. I never suggest using a GPO to assign clients. It tattoos the registry and the only way to reassign a client that has been assigned via GPO is with another GPO. Unless of course you run a script to remove the registry entries. It's a pain but I've done it to clean up someone elses mess. John Marcum | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum/|
