Moving to another server
Server hardware is coming to end of lease. We need to move the site and db to another server. What's the best process to do this?Jay Parekh Project Leadership Associates

Backup the server using ConfigMgr's backup mechanism and restore it on the new box. This has been covered numerous time in the Backup and Recovery subforum, for example: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrbackup/thread/0980de40-683b-4bb4-a008-e8d46e61486fTorsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de

You can either do a backup/restore or create a new site and establish that one a as a child site to replicate the objects.Kent Agerlund | My blogs: http://blog.coretech.dk/author/kea/ and http://scug.dk/ | Twitter @Agerlund | Linkedin: /kentagerlund

It you want to use the same OS then just take an imaging software like shadow protect, It's a hardware independent restore so it doesn't matter what hardware you restore it on. Blair Muller

I have the same situation whereby my server is getting upgrade. I would like to maintain the client records, DB & other configuration. We will be doing side-by-side upgrade where the old server remains online while the new server is set up. Should I use the same site code for the new server?---Packie
