Moving to a new server
I have SCCM 2007 SP2 running on a Windows Server 2003 machine.  Yes, left this late but priorities and all that.  Any road, I've got a perfectly good 2008 R2 box to install it on - lots of RAM, about 8 NICs, SSD storage.  My intention is to build it as a child site to replicate all the collections etc. from the parent, then break the link and decommission the original parent.  However, the problem I've got is that it's already designated as a DP for the parent site.  Removing this role would be a complete ball ache so I'd like to avoid it if possible  - so my question is, does creating a DP actually install anything on a server, or does it just create a SMSSIG and SMSPKG shares?  Will it confuse it to be a site server for a new site at the same time as being a DP for an older site, or will it not even notice?

A.) I feel certain that it would break things.

B.) Why are you not going ahead to server 2012?

C.) Why would you even consider building a new CM07 site rather than just building up a CM12 site and migrating over to that?
