Moving the Content Database to another server
I have a standalone install of WSS of which i need to move to new server, i am not interested in loosing any sites or applications, but i cannot afford to lose the content database as it holds many workflows. How can i move a standalone install of WSS onto another server, both are using Win 2003 Server Many thanks for any help on this.

As i have come to understand, you are running standalone WSS 3.0 , which means that the db is on SQL server Express edition. Are you trying to move the content DB to any SQL server other than SQL express edition? If you are moving to a different SQL server (other than SQL express), i would suggest two things 1> take the backup of the content db and restore it on the new one. In the new sharepoint, configure the sharepoint as a farm and not standalone and then create aweb app and then attach the contentdb. 2> try to take the backup of the web app using the UI and then try to restore. If you are just moving to another SQL express, then you have to take step 2.

Thank you for the reply, i have a new server of which i am unsure on what install to use. We dont have many users, a rough guess would be 150 and so i am thinking of just using the Basic install and then moving eveything over from the old server to the new. But when i try this on a test network it errors with the above error messages. The most important move will be the content database. What would be the best option?

I have tried the restore procedure and found two errors. One is refering to the fact i need to manually attach the database to the web application and the other states: The IIS Web Site you have selected is in use by Sharepoint. You must select another port or hostname.
