Moving a SQL 2000 reporting services database to SQL 2008
Hi, I'm trying to move ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB from a SQL / reporting services 2000 environment to a SQL 2008 environment. I have backed up the ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB from my SQL 2000 instance and restored them in the SQL 2008 instance which already has reporting services installed. I then use the reporting services configuration manager to change database and select the new ReportServer database which I restored in the previous step. This appears to complete successfully (verifying database sku, generating rights scripts, applying connection rights, setting DSN). However when I try to access the reporting services home page I get an error stating ' The report server installation is not initialized. (rsReportServerNotActivated) ' Does anyone know why I might be getting this error? I'm guessing that reporting services has upgraded the ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB databases from SQL 2000 to SQL 2008 format or maybe this is causing the problem? Thanks for any advice, Phil

Go to report server configuration and go to Encryption keys. Then delete encryption keys and try to run the URL again. It should work.

Many thanks irusul, that has fixed the problem. I guess I could have also backed up the encryption key from the previous SQL instance and restored it in the new instance to get around this problem too? Many Thanks, Phil
