Moving WSS 3.0 to a new server
Hi, The server that I have Sharepoint on is dying and I need to move it to a new machine. The new server has different hardware and a different hostname. Can anyone point me in the direction of a guide as to how to do this? What I've done so far is install Sharepoint on the new server and copied the databases over. I've changed the web application using the central admin so it points towards the copied content database. I'm was thinking that it could be an issue that the hostnames are different so I've also tried changing the host header of the site to the same one as the old server. There are no errors or anything just the sites from the old server aren't appearing on the new. Any help welcome, - Claire

i normaly copy the databases, attach on the new SQL Database and give the correct permissons. Install the new sharepoint server create a new web Site Application with the new hostname. After that i will connect our Sharepoint Databases to SharePoint Web application using the stsadm command: stsadm -o addcontentdb -url http//[URL] -databasename WSS_content Addcontentdb: Stsadm operation (Windows SharePoint Services) http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288692(office.12).aspx after this the databases will be connected to sharepoint sites. no no, just create the web application and using the stsadm command. After you use the command, on Central administration, webapplication Tab, select the option "Site Collections List" and verify if create the reference to the site collections.Andr Lage Microsoft SharePoint, CRM and Sybase Consultant Blog:http://aaclage.blogspot.com Codeplex:http://spupload.codeplex.com/http://simplecamlsearch.codeplex.com/

Thanks a million for the help guys, I got it working! I removed all the content databases in the app, added the one I wanted again and restarted the server. Everything was there then. Thanks again!
