Moving SharePoint databases to a new sql server
What is the best approach to moving Moss 2007 databases to a new sql server. The databases are currently on a sql 2005 server. They are going to a new server that has a different name and is running sql server 2008.

You can check the following article to move SharePoint database to a new SQL Server http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc512725.aspx Hope that helps. -Mukesh

I have that article, but it says "The new database server must use the same version of Windows Server and SQL Server as the old database server." We are going to be moving from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008 and from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008. How should this be done?

My exact same problem! Why is this so hard to get info on? There has to be a way! I posted basically the same question yesterday and have no response. So I'll be lurking here to see if either of us get a response.

I think you could follow the Move all databases to a different database server procedure. The only concerns are step 8 On the destination database server, restore the databases that you backed up and Step 9 Copy to the destination database server all the SQL Server logins, fixed server roles, fixed database roles, and permissions for these databases. The database schema should be upgraded to a high version automatically after restored. For transfering sql logins, please refer to: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918992 But I have never done that before, please test in your demo envrionment before take it to your production.
