Moving SharePoint DB's to new SQL Server
Hi All, I need a help to move the DB's of MOSS Stand alone installation servers to a separate SQL Server instance. We have MOSS 2007 Stand alone installation for our Test environment (3 MOSS Test Servers - all are Stand alone installation). Now we want to move all the DB's of all 3 MOSS servers to a separate SQL Server instance (Because of SQL server license issue). After movement we want to uninstall the SQL Server from all 3 MOSS servers. Could you please suggest any solution to move the DB's? Is it possible to move all DB's (Content, Config) to separate SQL server instance without MOSS 2007 installed in that server? Is it possible to move all DB's (Content, Config) to separate SQL server instance without bringing the server into farm environment? After moving all the DB's, can I uninstall the SQL Server instance from the MOSS server? If bringing the sql server into farm environment is the solution to move the DB's, is it possible to make the single SQL server instance common across 3 farms (because we have 3 MOSS UAT servers)? Thanks, Rajkumar

Hi Kamlesh, Thank you very much for the reply. The thread you have mentioned is little different. because they already have the farm environment, the have their databases in separate server, they are moving to new server. But in my case it is Stand Alone installation and i want to move the databases outside the Stand Alone server. Could you pls suggest any solution. Thanks Rajkumar

Hi Rajkumar, Got your point now. So, its the game behind Licenses :) 1) Whats the SQL Server version /edition you are using? 2) Will your New SQL Server box have Single SQL Server Instance or Multiple SQL Server Instances? Thanks & Regards, Kamlesh | Blog | Twitter | Posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
