Moving SharePoint Configuration Database to different SQL Server
I have inherited a lousy SharePoint installation in my new company, the system is installed on a single machine using the Embedded SQL server, now the databases are growing huge, and there are major performance problems. I managed to move all of the content databases to a new SQL Server installed on a different box, but my problem is moving the configuration databases, I searched a lot on this issue and couldn't find a solution. Thanks in advance

Is this WSS 3.0 or MOSS 2007. A "lousy SharePoint installation" could be either. My guess is WSS 3.0 because the databases in the MOSS 2007 single server embedded version are restricted in size but it would be good to have this confirmed. FAQ sites: (SP 2010) http://wssv4faq.mindsharp.com; (v3) http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com and (WSS 2.0) http://wssv2faq.mindsharp.com Complete Book Lists (incl. foreign language) on each site.

Sorry for not mentioning it, it is MOSS 2007. I need to move the database not because of size restriction, but because of performance issues. Thank you

MOSS 2007 creates a default SQL Server Express Instance called OFFICESERVERS. Please refer this article on moving the Database: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc512725(office.12).aspx And, also refer a similar thread like your post: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/219e398e-792f-43cd-8ed1-e37840a452f9Thanks & Regards, Kamlesh | Blog | Twitter | Posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
