Moving SCCM 2007 R3 w/SQL 2005 from Server 2003 over to Server 2008 Ent. w/SQL 2008 Ent?
Yes, I think. You are correct. I messed up with lot of numbers in the thread. Go through the thread. I think, Kent suggested a great IDEA in that .... http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrsetup/thread/ac0ce9ef-4401-44f7-9f69-591a1cced268 Anoop C Nair

Hello - There are two types of migration. Which one you are planning for? 1. In place (upgrade the current servers) 2. Side by Side (migrate to new Hardware) http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb681075.aspx Go through the below thread to get more details about in place migration. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrsetup/thread/75779cf4-ff7c-4724-b298-902e2cbf48c2 Extract from thread In addition, there is also another way : 1# Upgrade the SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 SP3 2# Inplace upgrade of SMS 2003 to SCCM 2007 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb693584.aspx 3# Run the ConfigMgr backup task (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb632797.aspx) Also, you will need to backup all packages you have setup, including the Package source folders because it's not included on the ConfigMgr backup. 4# Rebuild the new machine (keep same name, domain, drive letter, ...) and all requirements (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc431377.aspx). 5# Install ConfigMgr. 6# Restore the backup (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb680456.aspx). To restore all package, you can use PreloadPkgOnSite.exe tool : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=C36FCDA8-9336-4D44-9568-5530FF7635DD&displaylang=en Anoop C Nair

This is not an sms2003 migration.

Doing an in-place upgrade of the OS is not supported. It is essentially a backup of the current site (using the built-in maint task of course as well as anything else not backed up by the task including package source files and SSRS reports) and then a restore to clean installation of the new OS making sure that the server name is the same and that the drive layout (letters) is the same. I don't think that there are official links for this process but other documented it (I'm Kent or Torsten have a link handy and will add to this thread.) Why do Windows 2008 instead of 2008 R2 though?Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/default.aspx | Twitter @JasonSandys

If I remember well, John Marcum has wrote a very good document (step bu step) about how to use the backup/restore to move SCCM to a new hardware but actually I cannot find the link :-( Anyway take into consideration what Kent and jason said, they are right, and if you use the R2 ot R3 package (ConfigMgr SQL Reporting Point) so to backup/restore SRS see this link http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms155814.aspx . For the SUP role, I prefer reinstal WSUS from zero without any restore even if you can backup/restore WSUS (just for your info: http://blogs.technet.com/b/sus/archive/2008/05/21/wsus-how-to-backup-and-restore-wsus-using-the-wizard-mode.aspx) and as Anoop already said the PreloadPkgOnSite.exe for backup/restore your packages.
