Moving SCCM 07 R2 db to SQL 08
We are attempting to move the SCCM db from SQL 2005 to 2008 on a separate box. We've backed up and moved the database, everything looks ready to go (following these instructions: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb680707.aspx ) After entering the new Database Server name and kicking off the site reset / configuration, it completes the first two lines and crashes on "updating registry." No error number really, just crashes with a "send this error to Microsoft box". We've verified the SPN's as instructed by a Consultant we often work with... We're stuck, and machines are piling up on us to get imaged :-/ Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There should be a log generated when you do a site reset. I assume you have the correct permissions? The SCCM box needs to be an admin on the SQL box I think. John Marcum | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum/|

SMSDBMON.log gives this error: *** [42000][4060][Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open database "SMS_ISD" requested by the login. The login failed. SMS_DATABASE_NOTIFICATION_MONITOR 12/17/2010 10:19:09 AM 1192 (0x04A8) Which does lead us to believe its credential based. But the SCCM box is an admin on the SQL box, and we've mirrored the credentials from the old db on the new db as best we can tell...

Hi, Is the log file contain any info about the user used to login on the database ? If so, go to SQL Server/Security/Logins, right click on your user and select Properties and go to the “User Mapping” tab. Then, on the “User Mapping” tab, select your ConfigMgr database. On the lower screen, verify that the role db_owner is selected. Bechir Gharbi | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/bgharbi/

The log file doesn't say which user it is trying to use, I just assume its trying to use the system account, which is flagged as owner on the lower portion of the security pane like you described.

We had manually created the SCCM server account on the DB and mirrored the rights as best we could, but that was the problem. Support deleted the user we had manually created, and on the off chance reran the setup media to reset the site db and it worked (created its own user in the db with the specific rights it needed). It took MSFT Support 24 hours too, so I feel a little better :-)
