Moving Databases in MOSS 2007
We have created a faster SQL server we want to use for all our MOSS databases.
I have successfully moved all content databases to the faster SQL server.
Now I need to move all "admin" type databases as well: 1) AdminContent 2) Config 3) Search 4) SharedServices
We are not moving or upgrading the farm, only the SQL server.
Can this be done?
Thank you, Greg

Hi,This is a procedure for moving all the databases in a Office SharePoint Server 2007 farm to a new database server that has a different name. The new database server must use the same version of Windows Server and SQL Server as the old database server http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc512725.aspx#Section1However, if this my choice,I would go for the following- using my new SQL db server- run the SharePoint configuration wizards, disconnect your current SharePoint server from the current farm- then run SharePoint configuration wizards, connect to the new SQL server- create a new farm, and a new configuration database- configure your farm as same configuration like the old one- create a new web application, remove its content database and add the old content databaseyou now have the choice, tell if you need have any question

Hi Ammar,Thank you for your reply! We will try to move "system" type databases next month. The link you gave me looks good, only one problem.http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc512725.aspx This is a procedure for moving all the databases in a Office SharePoint Server 2007 farm to a new database server that has a different name. The new database server must use the same version of Windows Server and SQL Server as the old database server. To move the databases to an identically named or upgraded server, use the Move all databases to an upgraded database server procedure. Both use the same version SQL 2005 Server (9.00.4035)OLD: Windows 2003 R2NEW: Windows 2008 SP2There does not seem to be a configuration scheme that will work for us?Thank you,Greg

Hi Gerg,The content databases include your sharepoint site contents (site collections, sites and subsites), so this is the database of your sites, you can backup and restore them between farms or between sharepoint installations. on the other hands, The configuration database and the Central Administration content database contain computer-specific information. Therefore, you can restore them only to an environment that you configure to be precisely the same, including all software updates, server names, and numbers of serversBest Regards,

Hi Ammar,Thank you for your reply! That is exactly what I was looking for, thank you!Because we have to create a new Authoring Farm, we need to perform a full deployment again to the Production Farm, yes?Because the custom roles I created are site-collection based on the Authoring Farm, and not Central Admin based the custom roles I created should be fine, yes?Because I will create a new Authoring Farm, all customized settings will have to be redone on the new Authoring Farm, yes?Thank you again for your time!Greg
