Moving Content from Old Site to New Site
Within Sharepoint 2007, WSS version, is there a way to move folders and content from a document library within one site to a new site, without losing the metadata (author, date added)? Our version doesn't have the Site Content and Structure feature; not sure if that's only available with MOSS.

There are few tools available from Doc Ave and other vendors which might help. If you don't want to buy a tool then the only way will be to develop a component to do this.Regards, Mahesh

Have you tried Actions > Open with Windows Explorer? I have been able to use this under some circumstances. However, if the URL to these documents (or their destination) is longer than 100 characters (I think that's the number) it will cause your browser to become non-responsive. In fact, it has required me to reboot my computer because everything freezes up. But when it does work, it works. There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what you're are trying to accomplish.

So you're moving from MOSS to WSS 3.0? Then no Content and Structure is a MOSS feature. You could import /export via command line but try the following tool http://sushi.codeplex.com/ You can grab meta data, security and then choose the targent in WSS 3.0. It should make this more simple.Kris Wagner, MVP, MCITP, MCTS Twitter @sharepointkris Blog: http://www.sharepointkris.com/blog

I don't think, Kris, that (s)he is moving from MOSS to WSS 3.0. I think that the initial "within Sharepoint 2007, WSS version, " is a misleading reference to the fact that WSS 3.0 is in use. (Note to poster - just say you have WSS 3.0, the additon of SharePoint 2007 is confusing). I don't know if your tool will cover all metadata, but as we both know you can't by normal out-of-the-box methods move the values of the Created; Created By; Modified and Modified By fields and they will all be recreated with the person who moved (actually used a copy) and when they moved.
