Move some IIS folders to another server
We have a MOSS 2007 site. I need to create a testing server as a copy of the site. I use back up and restore db and attach db to the application. Everything works well. But I just noticed some settings in IIS is not moved over. I understand this is because I used the method of restoring database which I really like use it- clean and easy. so IIS setting is not moved over. I am OK with manually setup most of the settings on testing server- actually not much as I found earlier. But I found today on Production server we setup some short urls to redirect to long URLs, there are quite a few, I wonder if there is an easier way to move or copy those instead of recreating them one by one on the testing server? I notice there is a save conifguration file, but the file includes too much information I need, I only want to export those folders/directory settings, I'm afraid just doing an import of all the configuration file will mess up the application on the testing server. FYI, the way I create the short url redirection is like below: Under the web application, create a folder for example a folder named openhouse. Then click that folder - go to properties, on the Directory tab, in the field called A redirection to a URL, put the long URL there. So when users in browser click http://www.mycompany.com/openhouse, it will point to http://www.mycompany.com/HR/openenroolment/openhouse/default.aspx Thanks

Another interesting step-by-step article on copying IIS 6.0 to another new machine with IIS 6.0: http://www.itsolutionskb.com/2008/11/backup-and-restore-iis-60-in-windows-server-2003/BR, PM

Thanks, I also consider this for future upgrading from 2007 to sharepoint 2010. For we will change to server 6.4 bits, so for sure we have to plan on this too. But at that time the IIS will be change from 6 to 7. Not sure if above will work or not. And I prefer to do per web application not the whole IIS copy, for the new server may have different web app setup , it may mess up some configurations. Thanks

Great plans!! At that time, you should refer to any of the below links for migrating from IIS 6.0 to IIS 7.0: http://blogs.iis.net/bills/archive/2008/06/18/how-to-migrate-from-iis-6-to-iis-7.aspx http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb515251.aspx BR, PM
