Move moss databases to new server
I have a two server farm. I want to move the databases to a new sql server. I have read http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc512725(office.12).aspx and I have been doing alot of research and came across this method http://blog.falchionconsulting.com/index.php/2008/06/moving-databases-the-easy-way/ I am wanting to know if anyone has tried either of these methods or is there any other suggestions that would help me. This is my first move and just want to get it done correctly. Thanks, MarkMark

Hi Mark, I have read the article you mentioned above, and I think these are sufficiently detailed to guide you to complete this task. I still want to emphasize is that you must make a backup of your database so that you can restore your data if there are any difficult issues in the migration process. Here is a blog which have provided some useful tips: http://pointofshare.blogspot.com/2009/08/moving-sharepoint-database-to-another.html. Thanks & Regards, Peng Lei

Hi BlueSky, I decided to wait and perform the migration in a test environment. We have recently moved sharepoint from a hardware to vm. I still have the servers for the WFE and SQL server. I am going to setup another sql server and test it before I perform it on the production. Hopefully by this weekend. I will update.Mark

Proposing Peng Lei as the answer is premature at this point in my opinion. I have not completed the move yet and and I wanted to give the exact method that I have used. I appreciate Peng Lei's advice it does help me to move in the right direction. However I do not beleive my question has been answered. If the moderator wishes to mark it as answered again I will except that but I will still post my exact method for others.Mark
