Move all the shares in SCCM 2007
Sorry if this has been asked before, I have never used SCCM until right now. I have SCCM installed and all the shares (Images\RemoteInstall\SCCM Drivers\SMSPKG\SMSPKGC$\SMSSIG$\Software\Source_Drivers) are all installed to c:\ and that has no room. I would like to move all this very carfully to D:\ as this has heaps of free room. I have searched and can see nothing about moving the image folder to another drive (right now I just want to upload a windows 7 wim) but I did come across this link that kinda had me worried. Sounds like it is going to update all the packages on all the machines.. that would be bad as I assume it would cause us heaps of issues. Can anyone tell me if this is safe to do and point me in the direction of some help for the migration if so?

Hi, There are many articles on how to do that out there:http://www.myitforum.com/articles/1/view.asp?id=12833 http://paddymaddy.blogspot.se/2011/08/distribution-points-and-mystery-of-its_3858.html The remoteinstall share it self only contains the boot images so I would move that last or even consider leaving it. What about moving the software and drivers? This is where most my storage is going to.

Also these guides seem to be for distrabution points and I am working on the main site\server. does this matter or am I just reading it wrong? I am sorry for the stupid questions. Unfortunatly I need to move these before I can do anything.

The issue here is that all these guides specify a folder for moving. I see nothing about moving the folders that I want (SMSPKG instead of SMSPKGC$) or anything about moving the image folder or drivers folder. Am I to assume that I can do the process below for all folders? That seems very risky to just change it and hope for the best. I would like to hear from someone that has moved these folders (or find a guide for it) It seems strange that I can't find any Microsoft documents on moving these, especially when it seems so common.. These are the steps that I find all over the net, notice it is for SMSPKGC$ not SMSPKG --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stop SMS_Executive and SMS_SITE_COMPONENT services Open Computer Management Go to the existing SMSPKGC$ folder, which in our example is on the C drive Document the existing share and security permissions: Share = Everyone (Full) / Security (not inherited) = Administrators (Full Control), Users (Read & Execute), Guests (Read & Execute) Document the permissions of package folders and files: Administrators (Full) / Users (SiteServer\Users) - Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read Right-click the package share (SMSPKGC$) and select Stop Sharing Copy the SMSPKGC$ folder to the new drive, which in our example is the D drive Recreate the permissions as they existed in steps 4 and 5 above Rename C:\SMSPKGC$ to C:\SMSPKGC$-OLD Highlight D:\SMSPKGC$, right-click and select Sharing and Security. Select Share this folder - Keep share name (SMSPKGC$) Select Permissions and give "Everyone" Full Control of the share. Go to the Security Tab and verify that the permissions are the same as what was recorded in step 4. Go to the new package folder and verify that the permissions on the folder and files are the same as what was recorded in step 5 Restart the SMS_Executive and SMS_SITE_COMPONENT services
