Move a primary site in the sccm hierarchy
To make things simple, let's say I have a three-tiered sccm hierarchy: certral site CER, primary site PR1 attached to CER, and primary site PR2 attached to PR1. Now, I need to move PR2 so that it attach directly to CER. I have two questions: 1. Should I change the parent of PR2 from PR1 directly to CER (one step), or should I change it from PR1 to none and then to CER (two steps)? 2. My major concern is those objects (advertisements and collections) created on PR1 and replicated to PR2. After the moving how can I clean up those objects? Are those objects still locked? Is there a SQL script to do the job? Thanks in advance

1) You can do either it will not make a difference 2) the objects will not be locked after you have detaced from the original site. I ususally recommend detaching wait for all replication to finish, perform "house cleaning" and the attach the new primary site. Thanks Kent. That means you prefer the two step approach. In the "house cleaning", do I need to clean the PR1 objects only, or need to clean those from CER as well?

With house cleaning you basically need to remove any unwanted objects comming from parent sites (if needed).Kent Agerlund | My blogs: blog.coretech.dk/kea and SCUG.dk/ | Twitter: @Agerlund | Linkedin: Kent Agerlund

Thanks Sabrina and all other replies, So, this is what I am going to do: 1. detach PR2 from the hierarchy by setting its parent to none. 2. wait for a moment until objects from parent sites become unlocked 3. delete all objects (packages, advertisements and collections) that were replicated from PR1 but leave objects from CER as they are. 4. attache PR2 to CER by setting its parent to CER Is this ok? Has anybody did similar things before? thanks

That should work. Don't forget to delete/add the addresses from/to the old/new site.Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de
