Move Central Administration to 64bit server
Hello,
We have mix environment of x32 and x64 servers. Central administration hosted on 32 bit server. I want to move the Central admin from x32 server to x64 server completely. and we will decommission the x32 server after this.
Anyone have proper documentation on this? I am worried about:
- Start Menu Central admin shortcut on each server
- Also read about this issue that sometime you can only open central admin after you put default.aspx at the end
- Do I need to make any changes on AAM after this move ?

Hi,
You can add another Central Administration host by going to
Central Administration > Operations >
Services on Server > Choose the x64 Server > Click Custom > Start the Central Adminiistration service on the x64 server. However, this will not change all of the short cuts from Start Menu for SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration
(psconfigui.exe" -cmd showcentraladmin).
The easiest way to do this using the UI is to stop the service by going to
Central Administration >
Operations > Services on Server > Choose the x86 Server > Click Custom > Click Stop on the Central Adminiistration service, then running SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard > Click
Next > Click Yes > Choose Do Not Disconnect from Farm > Choose Yes to this server will host the Central Administration Web Site (should be the default since you no longer have a Central Administration Host) enter the port and click next...
This will set the correct Central Administration host in the config db and you will be able to run "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\BIN\psconfigui.exe" -cmd showcentraladmin from any server in the farm...
