Monitoring Windows service and applying to a computer group
Hello - I'm having problems applying a custom monitor (Windows service) to a specific group group. I already have a monitor in place now but only applied to one specific computer. The only way I could specify a computer group was to apply an override and specify my group. However any additional monitors I create will not allow me to apply the same override to the same group because it's already in use by my first monitor. I'm looking for a step by step procedure on creating monitors for specific services to monitor availability for a specific computer group. In my case it would be my "All Servers" group. Any help would be greatly appreciated.James

Hi,I'd like to suggest you create a new service monitor, when you select the monitor target, please click "View all targets" and select "All Servers".--------------------Regards,Eric Zhang

Eric - After applying your recommendation above I was able to create the monitor but I am not getting alerts and notifications when I test the monitor. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance,James

Thanks Eric. I have notifications working since I am able to get email notifications for heartbeat. However I still do not get alerts/notifications for these Windows service monitors. I know the monitor is in place because if I go to Authoring > Management Pack Objects > Monitors > and scope the Monitor for "All Servers" I do see my test monitor under Entity Health > Availability. Let me know if there is anything else I can do.James

Note:I was just able to get alerts to work now by creating a Windows Service monitor under Authoring > Management Pack Template > Windows Service and specifying the service I'm testing (I did not delete the original monitor I had created). However I am still not getting the notifications for these alerts. What I noticed is under Authoring > Management Pack Objects > Monitors (I did a scope for both the "All Servers" monitor and my new test Windows Service object I just created above to get the alerts working) if I drill down under Entity Health > Availability there is a "Service is Running" object defined. While the properties in my "All Servers" object doesn't have it. If this is needed how do I add this property to my "All Servers" monitor? Thanks,James

Hi James,Please check the Notification Subscription which you created for your alert. In the "Alert Criteria", please click "Check All" to select all options, then check whether you can receive the alert notification.--------------------Regards,Eric Zhang
