Modification of data in Excel file (SP3) in Share point (WSS)
Modification of data in Excel file (SP3)in Share point (WSS). Any modification of data in the excel file attracts the following error. One or more lists linked to a server running Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services have been changed in an unexpected way. The data may have been changed in Excel 2002 or an earlier version of Excel, or someone may have tampered with the data. You must discard the changes and refresh these lists in order to continue using them. I have XP, Excel 2002 with SP3. The file was created with XP, Excel 2002 SP2. When the file is opened in a machine which has XP, Excel 2002 SP2 it works fine. Any help on how to solve this would be much appreciated. Thanks Venkat

Hi all, got the same issue with our Citrix farms that have been updated to Office 2003 Service Pack 3 recently and now get the same error when trying to edit a MOSS lists' column in Excel. Somehow I have managed tosolve the issue my local PCversion of Office 2003 SP3 but I cannot for the life of me remember what I changed to get it to work!! Doh. Will do some checking, but I know one thing I have tried is to change the Excel file security back to pre SP3 - but this doesn't seem to do anything: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938810

SP3 didn't cause this problem. My sp3 was install in 5/2008. I did a update on 1/5/2009. That's when the problem starts to occur. Still trying to figure out which update causes the issue.

I have the exact same problem as Erhard above. I am trying to "export to spreadsheet" a sharepoint list but when I edit a "multiple line" cell in Excel, I get the same error message: Value must not exceed the maximum text length that can be published. What I have in the cell is way below the maximum text length that I have setup so it must be a bug... Does anyone have the same problem?
