Missing commas with multi-select parameter
Hi Alex, Sorry for the delay. If we don't specify available values for a multi-value parameter and input values for the parameter manually at run time, the parameter values in the list must be separated by line breaks. Besides, there must be only one line break between two adjacent values. So, please make sure the values list the users copied into the parameter prompt box were in the correct format. If the format of the values are correct indeed, please check whether the users uses Internet Explorer to view the report. Please notice that third party browsers may not support the full functionality of report. If the issue happens with IE browser, it may be related to third party add-ons of the IE. In this condition, I suggest disabling third party add-ons to see if it works. Reference: Manage Addons in Internet Explorer 8 Hope this helps. I have a report that has a multi-select parameter. The multi-select parameter works by pasting in a list of values rather than a list of available values you select from. When I paste a list of values, upon leaving the field, that list of values shows up as separated by commas. I have a user that when they paste in a list of values, the commas are missing so the values appear as one long continuous string. I'm trying to determine the cause and whether this is a browser, user machine, or setting within the report. Anyone experience anything like this? How did you solve it? Thanks, Alex

Thanks for the response. We shared an Excel sheet that was the source of the data. When I copied the column of data and pasted it into the parameter it worked. When he did it, it did not work. I even established a session with Lync and went through the steps myself just to make sure it was done exactly the same way I did on my local machine. We even took that data and put it into Notepad to make sure we didn't have any extra data captured in the clipboard other than the text we wanted separated by a single line break (/r/n). The user is using Internet Explorer. We're going to reset Explorer to the default settings removing any 3rd party add-ons and see if that takes care of the issue. AlexAlex Gates

Since this user is in Canada, I solicited the help of one of our techs up there. He reported attempting to run the report with his machine and experienced the same thing. Both are WIN7 machines running IE9. Steps taken: Reset IE9 back to default settings making sure there were no third party add-ons and issue remained. Uninstalled IE9 to use IE8 with same results. Tried Chrome and Firefox and was able to run report. When using a large number of entries (over 800) in the multi-value parameter, the report started to time-out. It was determined that a larger number of entries was going to be a typical occurrence so the query was altered to require the user to first import the list into a table and supply a list ID. Now a list ID is supplied and there is a join against the list table which no longer requires a multi-value parameter. The report runs with near instant results. Unfortunately this means the cause is likely to be left undetermined. Chrome and Firefox not having the same issue suggests this is a setting somewhere within IE. Since the user is in Canada and is management, there's little justification to take up his time for further research. Since our tech up north was able to duplicate the issue I could test with him if there are any other theories as to what the issue could be. Otherwise, since I can't duplicate this issue locally, this will be left undetermined.Alex Gates
