Missing Modified Column
Hi, I am using MOSS 2007 and recently a couple of my document libraries have had something strange happening to them. What is happening is the "Modified" column is gone, and it seems that two new columns have been added ("Document Created By", and "Document Modified By" [the "Created By" and "Modified By" columns are both there still]). Stranger still is that it seems to fix itself, meaning that on day a Doc Lib had "Modified" disappear, and then the next day it was back (and both new columns are there). There is no way that someone could have editted the columns except me (and I wasn't around at the time). Also as a bit more information, the last modified timestamp is still available on the documents themselves (so it's not a corruption issues at the SQL level I don't believe).Anyone have any ideas?~Ben M.

The Modified column is a system column so you can't delete it. I presume you mean that it has been removed from a View of the Document Library - probably from the default view or the view used by a web part. This needs human hand ... The other thing that can only be done by a person is to add these two new fields/columns"Document Created By", and "Document Modified By". These are in any case pointless columns as the information that is no doubt contained in them is also contained in the system columns"Created By" and "Modified By" . My only conclusion is that someone one HAS modified the document library (adding those columns) and the Views in them. There is no other logical explanation. (Yes I did see "There is no way that someone could have editted the columns except me". Hi Mike, thanks for your reply. Yes I know that they are system columns, and I looked to see if someone has simply removed Modified form the default view, so I went to add it back to the default view. The issue is that modified is not even an available optionwhen Creating a newview (or editting an existing one). I'll try and get a link to a screenshot just for verification that we are talking about the same thing. Thanks,~Ben M.~Ben M.

Am I going to have to open a ticket with MS? I can't find anything similar to the problem that our system is having, on the internet. Thanks,~Ben M.

Ben, did you ever get an answer for this? We have recently had the exact same issue. The only possible reason we can think of is that the library may have been one migrated from our Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 environment when we were first setting up. There were occasionally issues with doing the upgrade of individual document libraries or sites. Something I have noticed, though, is that the modified date/time appears in the display form (DispForm.aspx) so the column must still exist. Also I believe it's coming out with the queries against the webservices, but it's not appearing in the interface for setting up columns and views.

Mik, Did you ever find out anything about this issue? We've just had the exact same thing happen on our site, and we have no idea how it happened. The problem is confined to our document library; it did not occur anywhere in our lists. Of course, everyone noticed because the default view in the library was sorted by most recent on top. We can still filter on the Modified column, but if I uncheck it, I know I won't get it back (I tried that on a test view copied from the default view). Our tech support guys said they'd open a ticket with MS, but I have to follow up with them to see if that was done.
