Missing Enterprise and Publishing Templates when creating Site collection
I am following a Lynda.com tut and trying to create a site collection. In his example, he displays 4 tabs: Collaboration, Meetings, Enterprise and Publishing. He then simulates creating a publishing collaboration portal. When I choose from central administration, Application management-> Create Site Collection, I only have the first two templates showing. Can someone help me solve this please? Robert

Which SharePoint product do you have ? If you have WSS 3.0 you don't have for instance the Publishing template at all.SP 2010 "FAQ" (mainly useful links): http://wssv4faq.mindsharp.com/default.aspx WSS3/MOSS FAQ (FAQ and Links) http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com/default.aspx Both also have links to extensive book lists and to (free) on-line chapters

Best to call it MOSS 2007 as "Sharepoint 2007" means both WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007. MOSS 2007 has two versions Standard and Enterprise. It wouldn't surprise me if the Standard version doesn't have an Enterprise template. (I've no quick way to check) Also check to make sure that tutorial you are using was for MOSS 2007 and not for the current product. Yes, this is a section in the tutorial on a MOSS build for enhanced features which is the focus of my rebuild of our existing intranet. From what I gather, if I am not seeing it, we don't have a full install of both? Thanks for the lightning fast replies, btw.

You can find out whehter you have Enterprise feature or not from Central Admin > Operations > Upgrade and Migration section. Go to Enable Enterprise Features > if you see Standard selected - that tells you you won't have Enterprise CALs applied. For the publishing features - you may have to turn on the 'Office SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure' feature from the Site Collections features (from site settings). Hope this helps!BlueSky2010

Thank you. Unfortunately, I don't see an Upgrade/Migration section under operations.

I wonder whether you have MOSS 2007 installed or not. An easy way is to look at the SQL server table called "dbo.Versions" in the "SharePoint_config" database. You will find entries that shows the versions installed. As a general rule, if the version is 3.X only it means WSS only, versions 12.XX is MOSS (usually you will find MOSS and WSS as WSS is prerequisite to MOSS).BlueSky2010

We found this and now know we only have the basic version. Many thanks to all for the kind replies and attempts to help!!! Finding Out Which Version of SharePoint 2007 You Have To determine whether you have WSS 3.0 or MOSS 2007 installed, go to Windows Start >>Control Panel >> Add/Remove Programs. If you see 'Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007' in the list, then MOSS 2007 has been installed. If you see only 'Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services' in the list (and not 'Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007') then you only have WSS 3.0 installed.
